Public Speaking

Emily grew up with a minister for a father. Her fascination with sermons grew into a love of public speaking in high school, when she competed in Speech and Debate at Franklin County High School. Emily’s undergraduate degree was in both Speech and Theatre. Emily recently received 20 hours of graduate credit in Communication Education focusing primarily in Public Speaking at the University of Minnesota, Mankato. This Communication Education Certificate helps forward the cause of the National Forensic League in creating qualified judges and coaches for the competitive speech and debate circuit.Emily has judged at Harvard and Emory and in qualifying and final rounds for various national high school competitions including the National Individual Events Tournament of Champions and the National Catholic Forensic League. As an assistant coach, her students had marked success on the national circuit particularly in Dramatic Interpretation. Her specialty is individual events, but she has also received training at the University of Minnesota, Mankato in Lincoln Douglas Debate, Extemporaneous Speaking, and Congress.
